Clean eating is a lifestyle change that involves healthy food intake. These foods include natural foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meat and whole grains. Eating clean also entails the avoidance of canned and processed foods. It is done to remove unhealthy forms of fat in the body such as saturated and trans-fat and replacing it with the healthy ones. It is choosing foods with high nutritional value but with low caloric content.
Clean eating is a habit that cannot be developed overnight. Constant discipline, patience, commitment and motivation are required. The challenge and difficulties only comes in the beginning. Eventually, you start getting used to it and it becomes easy to maintain. Here are some simple steps to follow in your goal to start eating clean.
First, eat a lot of fresh, natural foods and avoid processed ones. Foods have lower nutritional value because some of it is lost during processing. Also, preserved foods usually have chemical additives and ingredients that may seem insignificant but can build up as toxic material inside the body over time.
Secondly, combine protein and carbohydrates in your meals. This will ensure a balanced diet and will give you a steady supply of the needed nutrients.
Thirdly, stay away from sodas and other high-sugar and high-calorie foods. Reducing and eventually removing sugar in the diet is one of the goals of clean eating. Choose a drink that doesn’t require additional sugar and doesn’t contain preservatives.
Fourth, get rid of the bad sources of fats and change it to the good ones. Do not eat fast food and choose lean meats as much as you can. This is the best way to decrease saturated fat in the body and take in healthy forms of fat.
Finally, spread out your meals throughout the day. Doing this helps regulate and stabilize the level of blood sugar in the body. Eat small meals 5 times a day. Aside from the 3 basic meals, start snacking. But, make sure that you choose the healthy snack forms such as nuts, fat-free dairy foods like yoghurt or fresh fruits and vegetables.
Clean eating is beneficial for the body. It will be difficult to start but once you get the hang of it, you will eventually love it and move all the way to your desire for a healthy lifestyle.
